They came, they questioned and they got nothing. It’s almost enough to make you feel sorry for Democrats. Almost.

With a history of vicious misbehavior and the political calendar limiting their ability to smear Amy Coney Barrett, Dems on the Senate Judiciary Committee were reduced to being annoying nags and finger-wagging scolds. They fumed and sputtered about the possibility that the court might be called on to make key ballot rulings after the election and hoped she would not participate. No luck. They all struck out.

Their basic problem is that Barrett came across as an appealing Superwoman. Flanked by her husband, six of their seven children and her six siblings, she was flawless in answering those questions she could and in politely sidestepping the traps.

Fading Joe Biden had a terrible Monday (10/12), a truly terrible day that goes a long way towards explaining why the national media and his campaign are working so hard to keep him hidden.  Here’s the rundown.

At a campaign stop in Toldeo, Ohio, he actually forgot he was running for president, saying what you just saw:  “I’m running as a proud Democrat for the Senate.”

When Biden was confronted with a poll that said 56 percent of registered voters believe they are better off than they were four years ago (when he was vice president), Biden said they shouldn’t vote for him.  And this was Joe just warming up – there’s lots more!

Senate Democrats said earlier this week that they hoped to defeat the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court by focusing “on the issues and the merits.”

Now, on day two of her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Dems are telling reporters are impressed with what they see.

While Barrett was still being grilled Tuesday (10/13), even liberal reporters on CNN and NBC  had to admit that she was doing a good job answering the Senators’ questions.

This was a significant vice-presidential debate because both Mike Pence and Kamala Harris are significantly younger than their presidential running mates.  Moreover, it's unlikely that even Joe Biden's staunchest supporters can imagine him fulfilling his entire first term.

This means that Harris was auditioning for president.  And despite Trump's robust energy, his getting the virus was a reminder that he too is mortal.  Fortunately, Pence was superb.  More than superb – it was a total takedown, not with bombast and bludgeon, but with a thin stiletto smoothly inserted between her third and fourth ribs.

Let me ask: are Republican leaders framing the election properly?  Are they doing a good job describing what’s at stake in this election?  I believe they can do better.  In fact, they must do better.  Here’s why and how.

This election is a contest between a man, Donald Trump, who believes America is good, and a man, Joe Biden, who is controlled by a movement that believes America is bad. Or to put this another way, between a man who wants to preserve the American way of life and a man who will end up destroying it.

Republican leaders are too focused on policy. This is not a policy election. This is a regime decision; a way of life election.

This has not been a good year for China.

The economy suffered a 6.8 percent economic contraction in Q1, followed by a 3.2 percent rebound (anemic by Chinese standards) in Q2. Relations with the United States remain tense and complicated.

On top of that, heavy rains have caused massive flooding that has wiped away billions of dollars of value in China, washing up factories, homes and agricultural land in a frothy tide of destruction. This last is important.

While China supports over 20 percent of the world’s population, it has a little over 12 percent of its arable land (according to the World Bank). Heavy rains and floods are bad enough; add in an African Swine Fever resurgence in some parts of southern China and the question of food security gains traction as something to watch.

Chris Wallace’s overt defense of Joe Biden throughout the debate on Tuesday night was so obvious, so blatant, he should be proscribed from ever “moderating” a debate again.

Wallace’s performance was as Biden’s protector, his advocate, and that is undeniable.  He stepped in at every moment Biden seemed lost: court-packing, lack of support of law enforcement, and Hunter’s criminality.

The debate was so poorly managed.  The questions were designed to aid Biden, to coddle him.  No wonder Trump felt duty-bound to interrupt.  Trump was debating both Wallace and Biden and only one of them is sentient.

Wallace’s intent was clear – sabotage Trump.  Wallace succeeded only in looking like the stooge he is.

If I were a betting woman, I’d say that, over the next month, we’re going to see a steady drip, followed by an onrushing stream, of information about the corrupt origins and practices behind the Russia hoax.

To start: the big news is that yesterday (9/29), Lindsey Graham released a letter from John Ratcliffe, the Director of National Intelligence (full letter in link). In it, Ratcliffe wrote that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were both involved in originating the Russia hoax and that former CIA director John Brennan pushed the investigation.

If you call 911 in a large American city, there is no guarantee that anyone will answer promptly and send out police to aid the endangered. So gun sales have soared. Some people who never before owned weapons, or who even opposed the use of firearms, are now terrified to remain unarmed.

Large swaths of the American West are now charred by out-of-control wildfires. Some governors and many federal bureaucrats blame the conflagrations on “climate change.”

But those who actually live within forests, or on mountains and foothills, that are historically vulnerable to wildfires know that the epic droughts of 2013–15 killed or dried out millions of acres of trees and vegetation.

Yet most of these decaying trees were never removed by authorities. They now predictably provide the fuel for the current wildfire Armageddon.

“The Rock” – the man Forbes magazine lists as the world’s highest-paid actor, Dwayne Johnson, has just endorsed Joe Biden for president.

In a seven-minute video pinned to his Facebook profile, “The Rock” explained, “In this critical election, I believe Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the best to lead our country, and as my first ever (public) presidential endorsement, I proudly endorse them for the presidential office of our United States.”

From reading through what are now over 100,000 comments in response to Johnson’s Facebook post, it’s clear at once that Johnson’s endorsement backfired. There are almost no comments supporting his decision. Roughly 95 percent of the comments are expressions of anger and feelings of betrayal.

Perhaps Johnson has laid an egg. Perhaps he didn’t know his fans at all. Or perhaps he didn’t care about his American fans.

The truth has finally emerged about Breonna Taylor’s death this past March. It turns out (surprise!) that the Democrat party – in Congress, in the media, and on the streets – has been lying.

Taylor was not a complete innocent whom racist police slaughtered in her bed during a no-knock raid. Instead, she was the victim of her poor choices in men: Her friendship with a local drug kingpin justified the raid and her boyfriend’s decision to open fire on police who had knocked and identified themselves led to her shooting.

That certainly doesn’t mean she deserved to die, but it explains why she did (more – and very interesting explanation below).

Picture a female jurist who has consistently defied social expectations imposed on women and whose legal thinking is closely bound up with her faith.

No, I’m not talking about Amy Coney Barrett, affectionately known as “ACB,” and reported to top President Trump’s list of candidates to fill the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat. I’m talking about RBG, Ginsburg herself.

Ginsburg believed fervently that conventional expectations shouldn’t hinder women as they seek their full, fair share of public life. Nor was she shy about how her Jewish faith shaped her judicial mind. In an essay for the American Jewish Committee published in 1993, she wrote:

“Laws as protectors of the oppressed, the poor, the loner, is evident in the work of my Jewish predecessors. . . . The biblical command ‘Justice, justice shalt thou pursue’ is a strand that ties them together.”

By those criteria, Barrett would make a most worthy successor to RBG.

The trope of a vast charade to create an illusionary powerful figure out of nothing is an old one in fiction, Hollywood and television. We remember “The Great and Powerful” Wizard of Oz fakery, a formidable screen image created backstage by gears and levers operated by a tiny man “behind the curtain.”

Over in Sweden, a legislator has nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize over his role in bringing peace to longtime foes Kosovo and Serbia.  That's the second one who's done it.  It follows a Norwegian legislator's nomination of Trump this same week for the same prize over his role in brokering an Israel-UAE entente.

Instead of saying "nice job" with a pat on the back, hoping the news cycle moves on, Democrats are going nuts.  The Swedes have noticed!  Now Dem responses are absolutely crazy.

The so-called revolutionaries who were busted for rioting at a New Afrikan Black Panther Party rally took a break from their yacht club lives and modeling careers to be a part of the mayhem.

The seven “comrades” — including wealthy Upper East Sider Clara Kraebber — had their mugshots tweeted out by the NYPD early Wednesday (9/09), days after their arrests for smashing storefront windows in the Flatiron District.

They were cuffed during a protest organized by the Panthers and the Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement groups condemning the death of Daniel Prude, who was killed while in custody of the Rochester Police Department in March. Yes, six months ago.

All come from privileged backgrounds — leading one police source to call their actions “the height of hypocrisy.”

It's the video that's sweeping the conservative blogosphere.  The Antifa rioting moron in Portland whose legs were engulfed in flames of his own Molotov Cocktail.  Twitter wag Steve Inman calls him Andy Tifa.

Andy’s comrades tried ineffectually to extinguish the flames which the police efficiently put out.  There are other videos of Antifa people injuring themselves or each other, but this one has legs (burning legs, if you will).

There's a reason for its popularity: that short video encompasses everything wrong with Antifa, and it's okay to laugh because no one was seriously hurt in the making of that video.  Don’t know about Andy, though

In terms of political ethics and tactics, the Democrats have hit rock bottom.

The Atlantic has worked hard to become a third-rate New Yorker in terms both of literary quality and the vitriol of its hatred for President Trump; the magazine has probably confirmed its position with the confection of the uncorroborated and totally implausible allegation that Trump disparaged American World War I veterans who died in France as “suckers” and “losers.”

It is indicative of the fact that the Democrats are much less overconfident than they were four years ago. In this latest incident, many people, including almost everyone who would have been present, have all denied that any such utterance had been made. It is inconceivable that this president would think or say anything of the kind.

But the odium of the incident is magnified by the fact that it was clearly staged in a tight sequence coordinated between the Biden campaign and its most rabid media partisans.

Take off the masks and remove the “social distancing” circles from the floors. Open the schools, liberate college campuses, fill the restaurants and the gyms and the churches and the salons. Enough.

In mid-March, Americans were asked to suspend their personal freedoms, business pursuits, and schooling for 15 days to “flatten the curve” of rising cases of the novel coronavirus. Americans, fearful of the unknown and willing to do what they imagined was the right thing to protect themselves and their family, acquiesced.

That was 175 days ago. What has happened since will be studied and debated for decades with one likely conclusion: Global lockdowns, particularly in the United States, were one of the costliest man-made disasters of all time.

The decision was rooted in unscientific hocus pocus that resulted in economic, educational, mental, physical, and emotional catastrophes on a scale that can never be fully quantified—not to mention the way stay-at-home orders fueled racial and civil unrest across America months before a national election.

We should expect lots of these “bombshells” and “walls are closing in” pseudo-derailments. Except Trump has been the most widely investigated, probed, attacked, and smeared president in history.

And so the scandal-field has pretty well been picked over. In Jussie Smollett fashion, the demand for scandals is outrunning the supply and time grows short.

I call it the COVID Con.  Last Wednesday (8/26), CDC issued its latest Coronavirus Disease Update.  What you see above is Table 3 on Comorbidities.  Don’t lose your mind or temper when you read: ”For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned.”

It lists the total number of deaths “involving” Covid-19 as 161,392.  6% of that is 9,684 – since February.  Add up all the deaths under 55 – 13,300 – 6% is 798 in the last six-plus months.  To compound the farce: “For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death.”

Most of those dying with the Chinese Flu didn’t have just one serious underlying medical condition, like diabetes or obesity – they had two or more, diabetes and a respiratory disease, obesity and kidney failure, hypertension and heart disease or some other life-threatening combo.  These were very sick people to begin with.

And we’re learning this now?
